Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas gains another supporter

25 May 2016

The possible move by the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas has always been a topic of note amongst National Football League owners this season, and talks of a franchise relocation continued at the National Football League owners spring meeting.

Davis' hope to move the Raiders stems from an inability to get a deal done for a new stadium in Oakland.

USA Today reported Kraft would welcome the transition, especially with Oakland making a limited attempt to keep the franchise. She later added this assurance: "I know (Vegas) will have a team".

The NFL owners will meet Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina, but Las Vegas being a potential landing spot for the Raiders - or any other team - reportedly won't be on the official agenda. Last week, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated his support of a team in Las Vegas. Luckily, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft seems to back him on the team's decision to relocate to better pastures.

The feeling that Davis has exhausted options in Oakland and needs support to secure a stadium appears to exist which is a sign that Vegas is a definite option for the Raiders.

Another narrative shattering comment from an owner of one of the NFL's most powerful teams.

Davis has met with Las Vegas officials and business leaders in recent weeks in hopes of striking a deal for a new stadium. Goodell's stance represents a sharp departure from the NFL's longstanding opposition to placing a team in the city. But there has to be a solution that's developed, and it's not just on us.

Public financing for a Las Vegas stadium would come from taxes on tourists, and a special meeting of the Nevada state legislature would be required to approve it. "The risks in Vegas are no longer exclusive to Vegas".

Knowing that he needs 24 votes from his fellow owners to move his franchise, having a power broker like Kraft pledge his support is a huge boon for Davis. If that doesn't happen soon, there's a good chance the Raiders will be moving to Vegas sometime in the near future.
