Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley, 33, will take over as head coach.

"When Auston Robertson came into his office for a regularly weekly meeting, Coach D asked him the regular questions he typically asks him, and then he became a little emotional and didn't even go into details", Lyons told WBBL-FM in Grand Rapids by way of

"I've had no incidents that would prevent me from coaching", Stoops said.

Frank Martin, South Carolina: Why the national talking heads can't/don't see Martin, 51, in Scarlet and Grey is beyond me.

The bowl wins returned for Stoops after 2009, and he led Oklahoma to a No. 1 ranking for the final time in 2011 and broke Barry Switzer's school record of 157 victories two years later.

Bob Stoops is leaving coaching the same way he conducted his business for 18 seasons on the Oklahoma sideline.

Seven months after trading the athletic director job at Missouri for the one at Oklahoma, Joe Castiglione faced a must-win situation. Only four active coaches - Alabama's Nick Saban, Clemson's Dabo Swinney and Ohio State's Urban Meyer - have won national championships. But he also made the rest of the league adapt to the spread offense, and defense in the Big 12 has never recovered.

Stoops replaced John Blake and joined the Sooners as a rookie head coach in 1999, guiding the team to a 13-2 victory over No. 2 Florida State to win the BCS National Championship Game the following year.

"Few athletics directors get a coach who better combines success and cohesiveness like Bob Stoops", Castiglione said. Stoops flew to Atlanta, met with Bowlsby, and then accepted the Oklahoma job (Bowlsby hired Kirk Ferentz, who remains at Iowa).

Stoops' decision rocked the college football world, especially in Norman, the epicenter of his success.

In March of 2015, when the OU campus was embroiled in racial unrest because of a fraternity's song that went viral, Stoops and his players bonded to show unity and help calm the waters.

The Sooners are 9-9 in bowl games under Stoops' watch, including a 35-19 triumph over Auburn in the Sugar Bowl last year.

The son of a football coach from Youngstown, Ohio, Stoops is one of four brothers who became college football coaches. He was driven, passionate and determined to build something great, and he did so at an extremely high level for a long, long time. "He has the talent and personal character to be a worthy successor to coach Stoops". Stoops has decided to retire as Oklahoma's football.

During a radio interview, MSU board member Mitch Lyons claimed it was Auston Robertson who brought the allegations to the attention of head coach Mark Dantonio. He finished with a career record of 190-48, winning more games than any coach in school history. "They both played an enormous role in all our successes".
