Bellinger hits for cycle as Dodgers beat Marlins 7-1

17 Julio 2017

The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder stepped to the plate at Marlins Park in the seventh inning needing a triple to complete the first cycle of his young career.

As it is, Bellinger has had to settle for merely minor adulation, but there's no denying his impact on the Dodgers; he's already been worth 2.3 fWAR, and clubbed his 26th home run last night at Marlins Park.

Cody Bellinger has spent the better part of the last two-plus months rewriting a number of the Los Angeles Dodgers' rookie records, so it is hardly surprising it took him only two games after the All-Star break to claim another. They've won 29 of their past 33 games and have the best record in the big leagues.

The Dodgers will wrap their three-game set against the Marlins on Sunday afternoon when Rich Hill takes the mound. He's the ninth player in the Dodgers' 128-year history to hit for the cycle, and the first since Orlando Hudson did it in 2009.

In fact, more money has been bet on the Cubs to win the World Series than any other team at the Westgate. Riding a six-game winning streak, the Dodgers open the second half Friday with three games at Miami, followed by an interleague series in Chicago against the White Sox.

"A lot of our guys are going to be real happy to get out of this place", Turner said.

The Marlins right-hander agreed.

Working out near his home outside of Atlanta, Green recently caught up with Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford - his college battery mate - and Panthers tight end Greg Olsen.

"It's really not a surprise", Roberts said.

Latest on Hill via Rotoworld: Hill punched out nine while surrendering one run on just two hits over seven innings and taking a no-decision in Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Baseball is a team sport and you need batting, defense, and pitching, but when you've been the consensus best pitcher in your generation regular season success without the playoff pedigree is not enough. Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager retrieved the ball but had no play as Ellis scored easily. "Is it the era for home runs?'" Kershaw said. Miami will promote LHP Adam Conley from Triple-A New Orleans so he can start against Philadelphia on Tuesday.
