Alex Kingston's reaction to Jodie Whittaker Doctor Who news is PRICELESS — WATCH

If these social media reactions-including some from Doctor Who alums-are any indication, we don't think Whittaker has anything to worry about.

As Capaldi just finished filming his scenes in the upcoming Christmas special last weeks, it is likely that the first scene with Whittker is set to shoot on Monday, July 17.

There will be a familiar face for her on set - Doctor Who's new showrunner is Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.

"It's more than an honour to play the Doctor", the 35-year-old actress told BBC.

Chris Chibnall, New Head Writer and Executive Producer says: "After months of lists, conversations, auditions, recalls, and a lot of secret-keeping, we're excited to welcome Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor".

"[Jodie's] audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away".

"Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role".

Capaldi announced in January that he would be quitting the long-running TV programme.

Love Actually's Kris Marshall, Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Game of Thrones' Natalie Dormer were also considered for the role, according to HuffPost.

You may recognize Whittaker from shows including Broadchurch and Adult Life Skills.

Whittaker follows in the footsteps of William Hartnell (as well as Game of Thrones alum David Bradley, who will be playing the First Doctor in this year's Yuletide episode), Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and John Hurt (who played the War Doctor). "Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that's exciting about change", she added "The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one".

"I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender", she said to a BBC Entertainment correspondent. I've been a fan for years and always hoped to work with her. She is an actor of great emotional range and inhabits every role with complete passion and conviction. The Doctor has to save humanity by fighting monsters and aliens.
