Club Are Trying Best In Transfer Market - Chelsea Boss Antonio Conte

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had an answer, pointing to Chelsea sending numerous players out on loan, but Conte insisted: "I'm not looking for sympathy of any coaches for this situation".

The last team to retain the Premier League was United in 2009 and Chelsea, which wasn't in European competition last season, now has the Champions League clogging up the schedule.

Conte also claimed he was "not looking for sympathy" over the size of his squad after leading the Blues from 10th the previous campaign to the Premier League trophy in May.

"He's a good player, strong, good personality, technique", Conte said.

Arsenal and Chelsea have never had an easy relationship, and while that has tempered somewhat with the departure of Jose Mourinho, the clubs are not friends - in fact, far from it.

When pressed about transfers and the positions in need of cover at Chelsea, Conte said: "I have already answered this question, I don't like to speak about this and send messages to the press". It's something that motivates me and makes me work harder every day, to be an extra hour each day in the training ground. The club knows very well about my opinion. No wonder the Italian coach cuts a frustrated figure heading into the start of Chelsea's Premier League title defense.

Conte was asked when Costa might return, but a club spokesman intervened, saying: "Nothing to report on that". The transfer window could yet yield some positive delights in a similar manner to last summer when David Luiz and Marcos Alonso were acquired late on and proved to be inspired additions to the squad. This must be my focus during this period.

Chelsea's record signing Alvaro Morata is unlikely to start the champions' Premier League opener against Burnley on Saturday because he has not adjusted to their style, Blues manager Antonio Conte said on Friday.

"It is the price that must be paid for such a large transfer".

Some of Burnley's relegation rivals have heavily invested on new players, with Dyche working under more restrained parameters.

'Honestly, if you have to give your evaluation on the card (on paper) it's right.

One of the issues is that striker Diego Costa, last season's top scorer, remains in exile.

Procuring 10 points from the first four games and some canny signings could yet see Chelsea build on last season.

"When you start a new season it's very important to think of ourselves, not to see the others".
