Liverpool reject second Barca bid for Coutinho

12 Agosto 2017

The Premier League giants have also rejected Barcelona's second € 100 million move telling representatives of Barcelona that they are 'losing time' given that Liverpool are not open to sell Coutinho at any price.

Liverpool have again told Barcelona that Philippe Coutinho is not for sale after rejecting a €100m (£90m) bid for the Brazil midfielder.

Barcelona are in search of a replacement for Brazilian forward Neymar after his world record €222m move to French club Paris Saint-Germain. That is set in stone.

But ultimately Klopp and his board knew a decision had to be made sooner, rather than later, or risk losing their star man at the end of the transfer window with no time to replace him.

The news comes as Coutinho arrived at the club's training base on Thursday having not trained all week because of a back complaint.

Souness added: "The problem they have is they are going to have so much money for him, wherever they go next the selling club is going to want that money, they will have to pay a premium, Liverpool".

"The good thing from the Liverpool fans' point of view is the manager (Jurgen Klopp) is desperate to keep hold of him and is trying to keep hold of him".

"Crucially for Liverpool, Coutinho signed a new five-year deal in January and there's no release clause in that contract".

Philippe Coutinho may well still join Barcelona but you have to admire Liverpool's stance up to now.

Should Barcelona fail to tempt Coutinho to Spain, they are expected to turn their attentions to highly-rated French star Ousmane Dembele of Borussia Dortmund.

The player has been continually linked with the Catalan club, with a bid of around £70m already rejected by the Merseyside club last month. "He's got to be worth more than that". So, that's how it is.
