Pep Guardiola forecasts end to Manchester City spending spree — Premier League

12 Agosto 2017

Who will win the Premier League this season? Another trophy-less season will likely be deemed another failure and expectations, as such, are high in the Premier League, with an eye too on the Champions League semi-final at the very least.

City's Arab billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour has invested more than 200 million pounds in new players during the close-season adding to their already impressive attacking options and upgrading their identified 'weak spots' at full-back and goalkeeper.

Brighton's home then was the Goldstone Ground, which was sold in 1997 as the club battled against possible bankruptcy, leaving them 'homeless' until they moved into their current venue, the Amex Stadium, six years ago.

Pep Guardiola will have been disappointed with his first season in England as it was his first season without a piece of silverware for the first time in his managerial career, and the Catalan has looked to rectify by breaking the bank with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy joining the cause thus far.

That untimely habit of springing beyond the last defender has not gone unnoticed by Jesus' mother Vera Lucia and regular matriarchal tips on the art of goal-poaching even inspired Jesus' telephone goal celebration. "This group of players is going to stay for a long time at Manchester City".

Manchester City were better than Real Madrid, Tottenham and West Ham in the pre-season, while their only defeat came against their city rival - Manchester United.

Golden Boot: Gabriel Jesus.

Pep Guardiola: "Last season at my first press conference we were favorites, so nothing has changed".

This should also be the season for John Stones, who certainly didn't do what he was bought to do last season.

"It´s going to be tough, very tough". They could say goodbye to Philippe Coutinho too.

"I think sooner or later it is going to finish", he said. The man cannot stop scoring and he has averaged 25 league goals in the past three seasons.

City open their Premier League campaign on Saturday with a trip to newly-promoted Brighton.

Arsenal can return to familiar territory with the signing of Alexander Lacazette but only the Frenchman's addition won't be enough to sustain a title challenge. Manchester City are many pundits´ favourites for the title this year. It's completely the same, because it's the same manager.

Will Harry Kane make it three Golden Boots in a row?

"So although it will be difficult to get a point or three against Manchester City, it´s not impossible".

Guardiola said: "It is not just us". Perhaps we´ve got to ensure that all our players give their all and hope that City are off-colour, but it can happen that way. Keeping four central defenders around would also prevent the City boss from having to deploy full-backs and midfielders his back line, something common last season, when Aleksandar Kolarov and Fernandinho occasionally played as makeshift centre-backs.

But they did. And a dozen years on, Bloom and his gang are here.
