Liverpool appeal against three-game Mane suspension rejected

13 Setiembre 2017

Mane was given his marching orders in the 37 minute after referee Jon Moss conceded that his collision with City goalkeeper Ederson was dangerous.

He then signed a new one-year contract with City in June, but is yet to figure for the club this season. I cannot think a player like Mane is going to make a challenge this hard to the face (deliberately) so I think he followed the ball.

"The problems come at the back and were brutally exposed in the second half in a dreadful display, even given for the fact they were down to 10 men".

Midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can started for the Reds but was deployed in defence after Mane was sent off. I saw the goalie already and obviously it's not that bad.

Aside from his suspension for three domestic games - Mane can still play against Sevilla on Wednesday - the African's absence ensures Philippe Coutinho's first-team exile ends sooner rather than later, Klopp suggesting the timescale for his return was always another 'three or four days'. The youngster was the hero of Liverpool's first leg victory over Hoffenheim, but Nathaniel Clyne's injury has been a major blow.

"I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery", he posted on his official Facebook page.

"The Liverpool forward was dismissed for serious foul play during the game against Manchester City on Saturday [9 September 2017]." .

Ederson had raced out of his area to head clear a high bouncing ball when he was knocked to the ground.

Speaking on the Sunday Supplement, Law said: "Didn't the result tell us more about Liverpool's defending rather than Manchester City's attacking? You've beaten Arsenal 4-0 at home and then you change your backline by taking [Dejan] Lovren out and putting [Ragnar] Klavan in". It's unlucky, an accident. "His eyes are on the ball, it's ridiculous", Gary Neville told Sky Sports.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored twice as Stoke ended Manchester United's perfect start to the season with a 2-2 draw at the bet365 Stadium.

"But one game less would have been right, two and a half, not three and half".
