LG and Apple may partner to make foldable displays for the iPhone

Citing The Bell, the media outlet reports that LG Display created a "task force" to develop a foldable OLED panel for the iPhone model.

"In addition, Apple is also looking to reboot the cult-classic TV series "#Amazing Stories".

Apple has teamed up with LG to start work on an iPhone with a foldable screen. The move is also interesting because Samsung is the sole supplier of OLED panels for this year's iPhone X. The rumored foldable phone is reportedly called the Galaxy X, and it has apparently been certified in South Korea already.

"It may very well prove correct that iPhone 8 demand is being negatively impacted by buyers waiting to at least see iPhone X and we may see very limited availability of iPhone X shortly after launch, but we do not expect either of these issues to drive a market share shift away from iPhone", he said, according to Barrons.

He said that the iPhone was "like any tool, you can see there's wonderful use and then there's misuse". Apple usually starts working out the components and prototypes a year before the actual product is developed.

Overwhelming demand from the next generation of consumers, 78 percent of which currently own iPhones, prompted Piper Jaffray's Michael Olson to dismiss fears that other smartphone makers, such as Samsung Electronics Co. The company is expected to begin production for the iPhone as early as 2019 at its new E6 plant in Gyeonggi Province.

Previous reports suggested that both Samsung and LG are planning to launch devices which 'unfold' into larger screens - allowing users to keep a tablet-style device in a pocket, according to the Korea Herald. However, the iPhone maker has apparently not finalized an agreement for that yet.
