Health Advisory Over Wildfire Smoke Extended Into Weekend

13 Octubre 2017

A health advisory has been issued for the South Bay due to smoke in the air, according to the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department.

FRESNO- Smoke from the Northern California wildfires has the potential to affect air quality throughout the entire San Joaquin Valley, prompting local air pollution officials to issue a health cautionary statement Valley-wide. The blazes are sending a cloud of ash and smoke over the bay, threatening residents with polluted air.

"Honestly, we are recording some of the worst air quality ever recorded in any part of the Bay Area", said Tom Flannigan, spokesman for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

The teams have established a YouCaring site for fans to donate whatever they can to support the victims of these devastating fires.

Firefighters from across California and neighboring states are working feverishly to contain the fires that have resulted in multiple casualties and destroyed more than 2,000 structures. Ironically, there was talk back then of Miami and San Diego playing in Oakland.

"The Raiders family expresses our deepest concern for everyone affected by the North Bay fires", said Raiders President Marc Badain.

Despite the poor air quality, morning classes at SF State were still in session, leaving some students upset.

Hospital: Stanford Health Care has received patients from the wildfire area this week and will continue to do so.

Fresno Unified has decided to cancel all outdoor activities, including sports practices, for elementary, middle and high school students. Could desperate times lead them back for a last-minute, one-game reunion on the field where Howie Long and Marcus Allen once reigned supreme?

If air quality is unhealthy, medical experts say, it's best to stay indoors with doors and windows closed because the walls of a home or office act as a filter, reducing exposure to fine particulate.
